Become a Member

Tahoe Composts is powered by its members. When you join, you're helping fund a community program that keeps food scraps out of landfills and turns them into local compost.

Your membership makes the pickups possible, and it helps us reach more homes across the Basin.

What your membership supports

Members make the whole program run. Your support covers the cost of collecting food scraps, keeps our routes going, and helps us grow into new neighborhoods. Every member household diverts hundreds of pounds of food waste from the landfill each year.

What you get as a member

  • A countertop bin for daily food scraps and a 5-gallon outdoor bin for collection

  • Regular curbside pickup on a schedule that fits your household

  • An accepted-items guide

  • Food scraps composted right here in the region, not buried in the landfill

Which membership fits your household?

A la carte pick-ups

Part-time residents and smaller households producing less food scraps. You schedule pickups when you need them rather than on a set cadence.

Two pickups per month

The average year-round household that cooks at home regularly and generates a steady amount of food scraps. Our most common choice.

Four pickups per month

Larger households and families who cook a lot and fill the bin quickly. More frequent pickups keep scraps from piling up between visits.

How we're funded

Tahoe Composts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We're funded by two sources: member households who support the pickup program, and donations and grants from people who believe in the mission. Member support covers the direct cost of collection. Donations help us lower barriers for families who want to join, expand composting education, and reach more of the community.
